links to art-related websites
The following gallery, show, and artists links are worth exploring. My strong strong Canadian bias shows up here.
Jean Detheux. One of Canada's greatest living artists. Extraordinary career as an artist and teacher in the best art schools around the world, works digitally in Studio Artist.
Ivan Murphy. Arguably one of Canada's very best working artists. His work is brilliant, emotional, powerful, full of life. [Note: This is not a Mac-friendly site.]
David Grieve. Along with Ivan Murphy, David Grieve is a personal favourite. A simply breathtaking body of work with a style and technique beyond reproach. Glorious stuff.
Rachel Taggart. Haunting and beautiful works from a young Canadian artist. Her work shows a brilliant appreciation for the contrasting effects of light and colour on sky, water, and land.
Kathleen Weich. Rapidly has become my personal favourite for abstract work. Her vibrant and stunning abstract works are blazingly rich in colour, texture and size. Wonderfully "stop you in your tracks" use of colour. Her February 2006 new works look and feel very similar to my 2005 work and sketches.
Karim Awad. Waterloo-based painter of simple yet delightful abstract shapes. Great layering and depth to his brushwork with a size range from 12x12" up to five square feet.
Phil Delisle. Award-winning painter and conceptual artist working in Ontario, Canada. Colourful acrylic pieces.
Kal Mansur. Globe-troting artist and friend who has lived in Pakistan, Texas, New York City, Toronto, Indonesia and has worked for more than 20 years in the field. Currently just launched his new website with lots more work coming.
Marc Trudel. Bilingual (French-English) photographer and designer, whose work is featured on CSS Zengarden and was featured in their book on outstanding web designs using CSS. Excellent photographer.
The McMichael Collection. Canada's famous McMichael Canadian Collection in Kleinberg, Ontario, featuring works by the Group of Seven.
The Art Gallery of Ontario. One of Canada's foremost art museums with an extensive (931 piece) collection of Henry Moore sculptures.
Ontario College of Art and Design. One of Canada's best independent art and design universities.
Toronto Outdoor Art Festival. Canada's largest and arguably best outdoor art show, every summer.
b royalty. Extremely talented artist-in-residence and teacher at ASU in Tempe, Arizona. Her work shows a delightful simplicity and wonder that few match.
William Wray. California animator and illustrator now focusing his energies on fine art in a traditional style depicting California scenes. Evokes memories of early 20th century west coast impressionism.
Sergio Sanchez. Well-known instructor at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and one of the very best portrait artists practising in the United States today. Brilliant teacher.
Lipman Contemporary Art. Downtown Toronto gallery with a good roster of really great new artists. Kathleen Weich is here, among others. [The horizontal scrolling is sure annoying though.]
Parts Gallery. Another Toronto gallery with a good roster of artsits exhibiting in a variety of media. Kathleen Weich's early works are here too.
Next Monet. Online art gallery with thousands of very good pieces of artwork available.
The following links are to some of the digital art programs I use in my work. There are also online art sites that have stuff worth exploring.
ArtRage. Ambient Design's wonderful shareware entry into the field of digital art programs. Simple and great interface with a new version 2 now out. I can not recommend this program highly enough ... go buy a copy now!
Photoshop. Adobe creates the world's best known and, arguably, best image editing program.
Snap Art. Alien Skin Software's Photoshop plugin creates beautiful, natural media artwork in a single step. It transforms images in an unlimited variety of real-world art styles including oil paint, pencil sketch, pen & ink, comics, and more. Excellent results in many cases.
Painter IX. Corel's powerhouse is the best progam to simulate natural media.
Studio Artist. Synthetik Software's John Dalton is the creator of Studio Artist, now at version 3.5.
Simon Andrew. Brilliant and stunning abstracts that really illustrate emotions.
Norman Engel. Simplistic but colourfully wonderful paintings. A style reminiscent of the early-mid 1900s.
Ry Smith. Brilliant painter who sells his digital fine art prints through his site. His wife's work is also featured on the arthill.com site.
Jeremy Sutton. Master of Corel's Painter program with an interesting and varied online gallery (showcasing his own artwork, and the work of his students) and courses for all levels of Painter user, from beginner to advanced.
